Presentation Skills for Nonprofit Professionals

How to Design and Deliver Polished, Professional Presentations

August 7th and 8th; 9am - 4pm
Some speakers seem to radiate warmth, confidence and the ability to connect with everyone in the room as though they were born with this skill. That is actually very rare; for most people, great presentation skills are the result of learning and practicing.

Nonprofits rely on storytelling to share their mission, engage others in joining that mission, and build a community of supporters who can relay that story just as effectively so the mission takes on a life of its own. As a nonprofit professional, the ability to communicate your agency's story effectively is your most important job. Speaking puts you directly in front of the people you need to support you. If not done well, speaking can leave a bad impression of your nonprofit and of you. You have the ability to create trust and confidence. You wouldn't be up there if you didn't know what you were doing. Use every opportunity to inform and engage by designing and delivering polished, professional presentations on your agency's origins, mission, and future.

This 2-day Workshop will focus on how to create and communicate a strong, persuasive message with presence and authority.

In the workshop, you will learn how to:

• Clarify the essential skills of an excellent presenter

• Assess your audience and build your presentation to focus on them

• Organize and develop your presentation into 4 parts:

Introduction, Opening, Body, Closing

• Identify important elements of delivery such as body positioning, voice, storytelling, and ways to handle challenging situations

Workshop participation is limited to 8 students. Participants will deliver portions of their presentations on video and will receive individualized feedback.

Students must come prepared either with a current presentation that they wish to revise or a clear idea for building a new presentation.

Day 1

Develop storylines, main points, transitions and persuasive closing.

Day 2
