Introduction to Strategic Planning

This workshop will present a simple and straightforward approach to strategic planning. Participants will examine a step-by-step process for adapting strategic planning to their own organization. The course is designed to examine strategic planning as a tool for organizational change, capacity building and sustainability.

In addition to learning the basic elements of the planning process and the strategic plan itself, participants will also learn strategies for implementing and monitoring the plan.



Learning objectives include:

· Identifying the key components of a strategic plan

· Differentiating between strategic planning and operational planning

· Determining what information is most relevant to the strategic plan

· Determining the best approach to data gathering and analysis for your organization

· Issues to consider that are likely to effect the final content of the strategic plan

· Deciding on a format that best communicates the intent and implementation of the strategic plan

· Mistakes to avoid

Trainer: Mike Hoff

Mike Hoff is the President of Hoff Consulting, specializing exclusively in nonprofit organizational consulting. Prior to leading his business, he was the Director of Consulting and Education Services at the Center for Nonprofit Management for seven years. His experience includes ten years as the Executive Director for Boys and Girls Clubs of America, five years as faculty at California State University, Long Beach, and over twenty five years as an organization development manager and consultant.


Cancellation policy: We require notice of cancellation at least 48 hours in advance of the class start time. No refunds will be provided for no-shows or late cancellations. LACAC grantees who register and do not show up will be invoiced for the full cost of the course. You are encouraged to send an alternate if you are unable to attend.
