Budgeting is the cornerstone to an organization's ability to thrive. Learn how to build a budget for sound fiscal management for your organization, and use your budget to deal with multiple programs and multiple funding sources and cash flow issues. This workshop is great for fund development professionals, Executive Directors, and anyone else doing budgeting for nonprofit organizations.

TomTrainer: Dr. Tom Hayashi, Associate Consultant with Mission Quest

Tom Hayashi is an associate consultant with Mission Quest. He is also a scholar-practitioner currently appointed as the Chair and Program Director of the Department of Leadership and Management (DLM) at Saybrook University. He is a thought leader with over 20 years of senior-management and consulting experience in the corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors.

Tom's professional highlights include leading a number of public policy and advocacy efforts in Washington DC during the Obama administration serving as the Executive Director for OCA-APA Advocates a membership based national civil rights organization representing the Asian Pacific Islander communities and Vice President of Development and External Relations for Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund.

He also is the founding principal of Capacity Empowerment, an organizational consultancy firm with cross-sector national and international client engagement portfolio including but not limited to Asian Youth Center, ABC Television Network, AT&T, Compasspoint Nonprofit Services, GM, Liberty Hill Foundation, Los Angeles County, NAACP, National Broadcasters' Association, Ocean Institute, Planned Parenthood Orange and San Bernardino County, The Praxis Center, Screen Actor's Guild (SAG-AFTRA), Southwest Airlines, Target, and UPS. Tom's past and present faculty appointments include Department of Human Resource Management, Bovard School at University of Southern California; Department of Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Business Psychology Program at Chicago School of Professional Psychology: Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington DC Campuses; School of Education & Leadership Studies at Antioch University Los Angeles; and School of Extended and International Education at California State University Dominguez Hills. Courses he has been appointed to teach include organizational strategy, diversity & inclusion, organization design, program development and evaluation, capstone and field internships, resource development, talent management, and training & development.

He holds a PhD and an MA in Human and Organization Systems from Fielding Graduate University; MS Ed in Education with concentration in Instructional Technology from California State University East Bay and a BA in Liberal Studies from Thomas Edison State University. Earned professional certification 2019 Director Candidate Questionnaire include data management, executive coaching, fundraising & marketing, and mediation & conflict resolution.
